43. How to Move Forward After an Upsetting Event

After being in a relationship for some time, you'll probably start experiencing some upsetting events that cause you a lot of pain. Sometimes they happened years ago and you're still in pain about them, which makes you withdraw or act cold towards your partner in the present moment.

In this episode, I share a worksheet that my clients get access to inside of my How to Enjoy Your Relationship Coaching Program that is all about upsetting events and how to move forward.

Here are the questions on the worksheet:

  • What happened?
  • List only the facts of what happened.
  • What is the story you tell (thoughts you think) about the facts that make this event upsetting?
  • How do these thoughts make you feel?
  • How do those feelings make you want to act?
  • How do you want to feel about this event?
  • What would you have to think on purpose about the facts in order to feel that way?
  • What can you learn from this event?
